Member at Large: Imani Mayo, CTRS, MS

For the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of building a career centered around helping people live fuller, more connected lives through recreation, behavioral health, and community-based services.

After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy from Indiana State University and later my Master’s degree in Recreation Administration from University of Toledo, I began my career providing direct services to individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, mental health diagnoses, and complex behavioral needs across the lifespan. As my career evolved, so did my passion for leadership and systems development. I served as a Lead Assessor with Maximus, helping connect individuals and families to critical long-term supports and services. I later served as a Social Services Director with Majestic Care, where I worked closely with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams to improve quality of life and care outcomes. Today, I am proud to serve as the Director of Recreation Therapy at Bond Behavioral Services , where I oversee therapeutic recreation services throughout Indiana. My work focuses on growing programs, mentoring clinicians, developing community partnerships, and advocating for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to have meaningful opportunities for recreation, connection, and independence. I believe the best outcomes happen when we combine clinical knowledge with genuine human connection. Whether supporting a client, mentoring a new professional, or helping build innovative programs, my goal remains the same: creating spaces where people feel valued, empowered, and included.
