Anti-Harassment Policy

RTI is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of race, gender, ability, religion, sexual orientation, or any protected status. This policy applies to all RTI-sponsored events and communications, and outlines expectations for behavior, definitions of misconduct, reporting procedures, and consequences for violations.

Code of Conduct Policy

The RTI Code of Conduct ensures a respectful, ethical, and inclusive environment for all involved with RTI. It aligns with the ATRA Standards of Practice and the NCTRC Code of Ethics. The policy outlines expected behavior, professional standards, and consequences for misconduct across RTI activities and events.

RTI By-Laws – Updates

The Recreation Therapists of Indiana (RTI) Board has updated its governing by-laws to strengthen professional standards, clarify leadership roles, and modernize organization operations.

1. Voting & Board Eligibility Shifting to Professional Members

  • Voting Rights: Voting rights and Board of Director voting seats are now strictly reserved for Professional Members (current CTRS credential holders)Associate, Supporting, Student, and Organizational members remain highly valued but transition to non-voting statuses.

  • New Credentials for Leadership: Voting Board members must maintain an active CTRS certification and professional engagementExecutive Committee candidates must hold their CTRS certification for a minimum of one year prior to nomination.

2. Streamlined Elections & Expanded Officer Roles

  • Secretary Term: Changed from a one-year term to a three-year term to ensure organizational continuity.

  • Defined Job Responsibilities: Clear, expanded duties have been established for the Past President, Membership Chair, Members-at-Large, and Student Representatives.

  • Election Timelines: A more structured timeline has been implemented for direct Board-managed nominations and electronic voting.

3. Governance, Ethics, and Virtual Operations

  • Redefined Quorum: Annual meeting quorum is now set at 10% of voting members or 10 voting members (whichever is greater), replacing the previous 20% total membership requirement.

  • Virtual Meetings: Explicit language has been added to authorize and govern virtual/electronic options for official Board and member meetings.

  • Accountability & Safety: Members and leaders are now explicitly bound to the ATRA Code of Ethics, the RTI Code of Conduct, and the Anti-Harassment PolicyClear protocols have also been added for the formal removal of Board members if necessary.

  • Policy Modernization: Governance language surrounding Document Retention (Article XI), Indemnification (Article XII), and Organization Dissolution (Article XIII) has been thoroughly modernized.
